Why An EMDR Therapy Intensive?

because it's backed by science

THE RESEARCH SHOWS:

  • Intensive trauma-focused therapy has been shown to be well-tolerated by people with PTSD, leading to faster symptom reduction and lowering the risk of dropping out early. Learn more here and here.
  • Intensive EMDR treatment is not only feasible but has also been linked to significant improvements in PTSD, anxiety, and depression symptoms in a short amount of time. Learn more here.
  • For those with Complex PTSD, research confirms that intensive EMDR programs are a safe and effective alternative. Learn more here.

SAVES YOU TIME AND MONEY: Compared to weekly trauma therapy, the intensive format reduces overall treatment time by eliminating:

  • lengthy check-ins at the start of each session

  • time spent managing weekly crises or concerns

  • focus on coping skills that aren’t needed after trauma healing

  • regaining composure at the end of each session. Learn more here.

Traditional Weekly Therapy

For many people, weekly sessions are helpful and consistent—but they also have limitations. Progress can feel slow, and just as you begin to open up, the hour is over. Life gets in the way, and the momentum you built in session may fade before the next week. For those facing trauma, anxiety, or deeply ingrained patterns, the “drip, drip, drip” of weekly therapy can leave you feeling stuck or frustrated.

EMDR Intensive

EMDR intensives offer another path forward. Instead of waiting months or years, you can dive into focused, extended sessions—3–6 hours a day, potentially over several days. This immersive format allows you to stay with your breakthroughs, process more deeply, and create lasting change without the interruptions of daily life. With a customized plan tailored to your goals, you can experience healing, clarity, and growth in a condensed, powerful timeframe.

How you break free with EMDR Intensives in Indiana

In traditional weekly therapy, a good portion of the session often goes toward checking in on what’s happened since your last appointment and setting up for EMDR processing.

That setup alone can take 10–20 minutes, and with most therapy hours lasting only 45–55 minutes, the actual processing time can feel limited. With the intensive format, things look very different. You stay in that optimal processing space for the full session, without losing momentum to weekly updates about work, traffic, or life stressors.

This allows your brain to move through the healing process more efficiently, often bringing faster relief from symptoms and a quicker return to feeling grounded, healthy, and fully engaged in your life.

EMDR Therapy Intensive Schedule

Your EMDR Intensive Begins Before You Walk Through the Door…

Prior to the intensive, you’ll be sent a thorough assessment that gives us a clear map of your history, goals, and needs.

From the very first consultation and assessment, we are already building the roadmap for your healing.

By the time you arrive for your EMDR intensive, you’ll have a customized plan and tools in place—so every minute of your time is spent on deep, focused transformation.

We are straight shooters

so let us be frank about who shouldn't sign up for an intensive:

While intensives are powerful and effective for many couples, they aren’t for everyone. An Affair Recovery Intensive may not be the best option if you or your partner are:

  • You are in an active affair— recovery work needs to be addressed before tackling affair healing.

  • Currently suicidal, self-harming, or unsafe — more intensive psychiatric or inpatient care is needed first.

  • Medically unstable or unable to travel independently — intensives require physical and emotional stamina.

  • Unwilling to participate fully — both partners need to be open, motivated, and engaged for the process to work.

  • Seeking a quick fix without ongoing effort — intensives give you momentum, but lasting healing requires continued practice and follow-up.

You’re not alone—many of our clients have tried EMDR in the past and felt like it was too rigid or even overwhelming. The way we do EMDR is different. We combine it with approaches like IFS, Polyvagal Theory, and attachment work, so there’s more safety, flexibility, and personalization built in. That means the pace is set in a way that feels right for you, not forced.

We also bring in creative tools for bilateral stimulation and working memory, which research shows can make EMDR more effective. And when it’s done in an Intensive format—several sessions in the same week instead of just once a week—it often leads to breakthroughs that clients hadn’t experienced before.

When booking an intensive, payment is due in full at the time you book your reservation in order to secure your date(s).

Getting ready for your EMDR intensive:

  • Give yourself space for rest and self-care both before and after your sessions.

  • Let your supportive people know what you’re doing so they can help create a nurturing environment.

  • Practice the grounding tools your therapist has shared to help you feel steady going in.

  • Set up a comfortable, private space—especially important if your sessions are online.

To be frank:  It depends on our both of our schedules!

I do my best to fit you in as soon as possible.
