Trauma & EMDR

Trauma is not only the thing that happened. It’s the way your body keeps bracing for it years later, in a grocery store, for no reason you can name. That’s the part these articles are about.

If you’re new to EMDR, start with the myths and facts, because the internet has opinions and about half of them are wrong. Then the questions people actually type into Google: does it work, is it dangerous, what it feels like in the room, how long it takes, and what the days after an intensive are like. There are also pieces on numbness, dissociation, and grounding when your nervous system has left the building.

Three of us do this work. Jenny Staats, LMSW, runs most of our EMDR intensives. Christie Jansing, LCSW, works with trauma, anxiety, and families, and accepts insurance. I use EMDR inside couples and affair-recovery work when the betrayal itself has become the trauma.

For weekly sessions, see EMDR and trauma therapy in Indianapolis. If you’d rather do the work in a few full days than across a year of Tuesdays, read about EMDR intensives.
