Affair Recovery

If you found this page at 2 a.m. with your heart going like a drum line, start with what to do in the first hours and days. It’s the article I wish I could hand people before they do anything else.

The rest of this collection covers the questions that come after the shock: how much to ask for and how much to tell, how to tell real remorse from a good apology, what ground rules actually hold, how long rebuilding trust takes (longer than anyone wants, shorter than forever), and the one nobody says out loud: should I stay? Staying is a decision, not a sentence. So is leaving.

I write these for both people in the relationship. The partner who was betrayed and the partner who did the betraying are usually reading the same articles on separate devices in the same house. That’s fine. That’s a start.

When reading isn’t enough anymore, this is the work I do most: affair recovery intensives, one to three full days, built around where the two of you actually are rather than a set curriculum. There are no half days, because the hard part never shows up before lunch.
